Upcoming VR Games You Won't Want To Miss

With Sony’s PlayStation VR 2 launching at the start of the year, we’ve seen a renewed focus on virtual reality support across the industry. Sony continues to dedicate a portion of their games’ showcases to exclusive VR titles. Meanwhile, Meta Quest 3 is just about to launch. There’s never been a better time for VR gaming, so here are some of the games we’re most excited about.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus

First off, we have Ubisoft’s major foray into the virtual reality space. This November, the long-running Assassin’s Creed franchise will be getting its first VR title. Assassin’s Creed Nexus, available November 16 exclusively on Meta Quest devices, will present players with a brand-new story and a world to explore, as well as the parkour, stealth, and combat you’d expect from everyone’s favourite wrist-stabbing series. Boasting an interactive world with 360-degree navigation, Nexus puts players in the virtual shoes of series’ protagonists Ezio, Connor, and Kassandra. Assassin’s Creed fans won’t want to miss this unique experience.

Behemoth

Behemoth VR

Following their acclaimed VR title Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, Skydance Interactive are currently promoting their next game: Behemoth. First revealed with a cinematic trailer at the 2022 Game Awards, this virtual reality adventure seems to tease a dark fantasy game with hints of Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. According to Skydance, the trailer demonstrates the game’s “brutal yet tactical VR combat” as players “conquer monolithic beings in a grim, unforgiving world.” Although currently slated for a Fall 2023 release, there is no specific release date for this promising title.

Firewall Ultra

Firewall Ultra

First Contact Entertainment first impressed us back in 2018 with their tactical shooter Firewall: Zero Hour. Now, its sequel offers a refined Rainbow Six Siege-style experience, exclusive to PS VR 2. Slip into some high-stakes multiplayer tactical espionage action with a variety of weapons, modes, and challenges. Set for a 2023 release, we’re hoping Firewall Ultra might see its way to other VR platforms one day.

Firmament

Firmament

Although this VR puzzle game from the developers of Myst has already seen its PC release, it is still slated to launch on PlayStation. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, Cyan put their unique first-person puzzling talents into a virtual reality adventure. Fans of Myst will instantly recognise the game’s cryptic puzzle and dazzling environments. Firmament isn’t exclusively a VR experience, though it undoubtedly benefits from the added immersion. Stay tuned for news of a PS VR release date.

Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord

Naturally, as soon as we were teased a Ghostbusters VR experience, we were immediately on board. The iconic ghost-hunting film series hasn’t always had the best luck with video game adaptations, but this one looks promising. Set for a 2023 release across all VR platforms, this virtual reality title will feature a full campaign playable alone or with friends in four-player co-op. Team up and take down the Ghost Lord haunting the streets of San Fransisco later this year.

What do you think? Have we missed anything? Are you optimistic about the future of VR? Let us know in the comments!
