Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set to launch this February. The unique DC third-person shooter will be available on PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. One of the year’s most hotly anticipated titles, Rocksteady’s superhero shooter looks promising, but will it please fans of the Batman Arkham series? Here’s everything we know so far.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Gameplay

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a slight departure for Rocksteady, though its open-world structure will undoubtedly be familiar. Set five years after Batman: Arkham Knight, the game sees supervillains Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark recast as heroes following Brianiac’s brainwashing of the Justice League. Players will be able to play solo or cooperatively as they explore the open-world, with a combat system blending third-person shooting and melee combat.

Each of the four characters has their own unique guns, melee weapons, and traversal system. For example, Harley Quinn uses a baseball bat and Batman’s grapple gun to get around. The gameplay seems far more action-packed and hectic than the Arkham games, with an emphasis on flashy, technicolour madness rather than moody, gothic prowling. Gone are the gothic streets of Gotham, replaced with the lively setting of Metropolis. The experience may disappoint if you’re expecting a measured, atmospheric affair.

The four characters, who will be joined by more characters added seasonally post-launch, each have a unique playstyle, encouraging experimentation and variety. King Shark’s Suicide Strike can deal massive devastation, while Boomerang specializes in juggle kills. Furthermore, Deadshot is naturally handy with a sniper rifle. The combat features a “reimagined version” of the counter system found in the Arkham games, which will feel familiar to fans.

Setting, Story, and Seasons

Rocksteady’s latest game is set to be their most ambitious by quite some margin. The scope of Kill the Justice League is far larger than any of their previous Batman Arkham titles. Players will be exploring a Metropolis invaded by an alien force, led by the nefarious Brainiac. The likes of Batman, Superman, the Flash, and Wonder Woman have been turned into threatening villains, while our unlikely heroes are forced to do-good rather than live up to their evil standards.

The game tells an original story, though if you’re familiar with the films or comics, you’ll know what to expect. Zaniness, carnage, and gleeful destruction are the name of the game. We know that Amanda Waller recruits our motley crew from Arkham Asylum, though it’s unclear whether the infamous Asylum will be available to explore.

Furthermore, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League features a seasonal battle pass. Rocksteady has said that the pass won’t confer any gameplay advantage, offering a wealth of new content, playable characters, weapons, and missions. The pass will also include cosmetic items for players to freely customize their characters. Post-launch content will be free to all players for a year, including the new characters. The Joker will be the first new character.
